Make your Smartphone and Tablet a Portable Scanner!

How many times have I needed a copy of a document, receipt, agenda, etc. and was not near a copy machine?  Oh, and how many times have I tried to take notes from a booklet or brochure on a bulletin board?  Even when I did take the notes, I discovered that I missed some important information or wrote a number incorrectly.  How frustrating!  There have been times when I used my camera on my smartphone to take a picture of the above, but I could not edit anything and may not be able to read everything.
I discovered an application called CamScanner, which has been a great asset to me and others that were around me.  The application is easy to install and easy to use.  Reasons for adding this app include the ability to: capture, manage, manipulate, save, and share documents across all of your devices.  It has a web-based log in to accommodate desktop management and edits also.  The free version allows 200 megabytes of cloud storage and syncs with authorized devices.

I highly recommend trying this application because I am now able to use my smartphones and tablet’s camera to take a picture of any document, have it scanned, name it, and use it as needed.  It’s the same concept used for mobile/online banking. Checks can be scanned with a smartphone and deposited.  Now, anyone can take advantage of this feature.  The application allows for retakes to reach satisfaction.  Android and IPhone users can enjoy this application and make their document needs easier to manage.

  1. Hello,

Wow I didn't know about this, but now that you have open my eyes to this additional feature on my phone and tables I will be sure to read more about it and use them as we all can use a portable scanner from time to time. Thanks again!

    1. You are welcome, Ric. You will also find CamCard, which is a business card scanner app for your phone. It will: capture your business card, fill in the contact information, and highlight areas of the capture for corrections. The neat thing about CamCard is that it is compatible with Android and IPhone; gmail and outlook. Once your card is scanned in, it will store them in any device and allow you to sync. It will allow customized sorting and it has a note section. I have stored over 135 business cards with dates, time, and my notes about why I have that card!

There may be other apps that may work as well or better, but I'm so pleased with CamCard and CamScanner, I have not tried any others.

  2. Thanks Patt...I'm downloading the CamCard app now...I frequently collect business cards, so we'll see how well this works...I'm hoping it'll be convenient and eventually I can eliminate the paper cards. Thanks for sharing, great idea.

  3. This is a great idea my only concern would be how much space does it use up with all the documents that would be scanned? I am constantly having to delete things on my phone because "storage is used up" so that would probably be my only hesitation with an application like this.

    1. Katie, you bring up a valid point. I actually did run out of space on my phone. However, CamScanner allows file editing from the web. I logged in and was able to manage my files. I also store all of my data on an SD card.
